Driven by the thrill of new discoveries, the former anthropology student from Montpellier could have chosen to go into research or archaeology. However, for Emma François, aged 21, the adventure began in Latin America during a trip to Guatemala.

Meeting with men and women who weave, embroider, sew, create clothes and craft objects signed the designer’s first step on a path that seemed to be waiting for her. The idea of designing a collection that would marry local know-how and street culture soon began to take shape. And in 1996, Sessùn came into being.

Emma François, who was living in Marseille at the time, gained recognition from the Maison Mode Méditerranée, which awarded her the Young Designer of the Year prize in both 1999 and 2001. In 2004, Sessùn opened its first store in Paris, on Rue de Charonne.

In 2019, Sessùn Alma was born in Marseille, a space for multiple lifestyles designed to reflect and foster the brand’s soul around a selection of arts and crafts and a canteen. Sessùn continues to grow year after year, with new stores in London, Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. Not to mention Berlin, Brussels… A total of 400 points of sale are now established in France and abroad, in the form of directly-owned stores and multi-brand retailers.

Sessùn is unique in its passion for craftsmanship, quality materials and its love of objects from here, there and… everywhere. Bonding with people, with the elements - water, light, clay, roots. Many stories fashioned into garments featuring indigo, ochre, terracotta, fabrics, lace…

Sessùn's rich history of human encounters and delving into the world's heritage resulted in a considered and responsible approach focused on quality and the promotion of know-how.
